About Alana
My journey into psychotherapy didn’t start with formal seminary or a plan to become a therapist. It started in small, sacred moments of connection. As a youth ministry leader during my undergraduate years, I spent six years walking alongside teenage girls, many of whom would open up to me in what I call “car confessions.” Late-night drives after youth group became holy ground where painful, hidden stories were spoken aloud for the first time. In those moments, I realized the power of presence, how simply being with someone in their pain can open a door to healing.
But the seed was planted even earlier. In my senior year of high school, I volunteered at UCLA’s Mattel Children’s Hospital, spending time in the playroom with terminally ill children. I wasn’t doing anything groundbreaking; just playing, listening, being present, but something in me shifted. I saw firsthand the sacredness of holding space for these brave little souls and their families during some of the hardest moments of their lives left an indelible mark on my heart.
Eventually, I pursued a graduate degree in Marital and Family Therapy at Fuller Theological Seminary. My time there deepened my understanding of human relationships, the impact of family systems, and the way trauma shapes the stories we live. I began to see that so many of our wounds are not random. They're deeply tied to our sense of identity and calling. Healing, then, isn’t just about symptom relief; it’s about returning to who we truly are.
I also bring to this work over 20 years of experience as a worship leader. Music has always been a healing language for me and a way to connect with God, express grief, joy, and create space for others to do the same.
It’s been an honor to see so many clients grow in self-awareness, find peace, and cultivate healthier relationships. Today, as I continue to develop my private practice, I remain grounded in the belief that healing is a collaborative journey, one that requires both compassion and the courage to face one’s wounds. I consider it a privilege to witness the courage it takes to heal.
The Healer
As a Christian psychotherapist, I am deeply moved by the language of healing woven throughout Scripture. In Matthew 10:1, the Greek word therapeuein is used when Jesus gives His disciples authority “to heal every disease and every sickness.” From this word we receive our modern word therapy, yet its ancient meaning carried a far wider embrace. It spoke of tending, caring for, and restoring wholeness. In Hebrew, the word for healing, rapha, likewise means to mend and make whole, revealed in God’s covenant name: Yahweh Rapha, “The Lord Who Heals” (Exodus 15:26). Even in modern Hebrew, the borrowed word terapeuti still echoes this call to restoration. To me, this convergence is no coincidence. It is a sacred reminder that true therapy, at its heart, is a ministry of healing that reaches body, soul, and spirit. This is the space I seek to create: a place of restoration where the human heart can encounter the transformative love of God.
My philosophy
I believe no soul is ever beyond redemption. Like the Japanese art of kintsugi, where shattered pottery is mended with veins of gold, God tenderly gathers the broken pieces of our lives and fills the cracks of our hearts with His glory. What once seemed ruined becomes radiant, the very scars transformed into places of beauty and strength. In His hands, our brokenness does not disqualify us. It becomes the canvas for His redemption, a testimony that healing is not the erasure of our past, but the transfiguration of it into something more precious than before.
